Hello!

*** Reporter, please consider answering these questions, where appropriate ***

   * What led up to the situation?
Want to mount a virtual disk from VirtualBox

   * What exactly did you do (or not do) that was effective (or
     ineffective)?
    guestmount -o umask=0133 -o uid=1000 -o gid=1000 --add /var/local/lib/virtualbox-vm/FreeDOS_x32_9g.vdi --mount /dev/sda1 /home/joerg/Virtualisierung/_guestmount

   * What was the outcome of this action?
libguestfs: Fehler: appliance closed the connection unexpectedly.
This usually means the libguestfs appliance crashed.

   * What outcome did you expect instead?
    Simply mounting the virtual disk.
Was working on Debian but not on Devuan

Thanks for this.

I have no first hand knowledge of guestfsd, however it declares a dependency on
libsystemd0. Are you able to verify that either libsystemd0 or libelogind0
(which provides libsystemd0) is installed?

You should have either one of

 /usr/lib/x86_64-linux-gnu/libsytemd.so.0
 /lib/x86_64-linux-gnu/libsytemd.so.0

Which is present?

Thanks

Mark

Neither in the first nor in the second location

Than I tried this:

> libsystemd0. Are you able to verify that either libsystemd0 or libelogind0
> (which provides libsystemd0) is installed?

# dpkg -s libsystemd0
dpkg-query: package 'libsystemd0' is not installed and no information is available
Use dpkg --info (= dpkg-deb --info) to examine archive files.

# dpkg -s libelogind0
dpkg-query: error: --status needs a valid package name but 'libelogind0' is not: ambiguous package name 'libelogind0' with more than one installed instance

Use --help for help about querying packages.

Hmmm...

# dpkg -l '*' | grep -i libelogind0
ii libelogind0:amd64 241.4-2 amd64 user, seat and session management library
ii libelogind0:i386 241.4-2 i386 user, seat and session management library

Aha, OK.

So:
# dpkg -L libelogind0:amd64
/.
/usr
/usr/lib
/usr/lib/x86_64-linux-gnu
/usr/lib/x86_64-linux-gnu/libelogind.so.0.25.0
/usr/share
/usr/share/doc
/usr/share/doc/libelogind0
/usr/share/doc/libelogind0/README.Debian
/usr/share/doc/libelogind0/changelog.Debian.gz
/usr/share/doc/libelogind0/copyright
/usr/lib/x86_64-linux-gnu/libelogind.so.0
/usr/lib/x86_64-linux-gnu/libsystemd.so.0

and:

# ls -l /usr/lib/x86_64-linux-gnu/libelogind.so.0
lrwxrwxrwx. 1 root root 20 Jan  1  2020 /usr/lib/x86_64-linux-gnu/libelogind.so.0 -> libelogind.so.0.25.0

# ls -l /usr/lib/x86_64-linux-gnu/libsystemd.so.0
lrwxrwxrwx. 1 root root 15 Jan  1  2020 /usr/lib/x86_64-linux-gnu/libsystemd.so.0 -> libelogind.so.0

# ls -l /usr/lib/x86_64-linux-gnu/libelogind.so.0.25.0
-rw-r--r--. 1 root root 830880 Jan 1 2020 /usr/lib/x86_64-linux-gnu/libelogind.so.0.25.0

I hope this will help.

libsystemd.so.0 rather than libsytemd.so.0. Apologies,

Which looks correct. I don't understand why guestfsd doesn't find and use the
libsystemd.so.0 symlink.

What does ldd /usr/sbin/guestfsd show?

Ran across this bug report after encountering this issue in Debian
Bullseye. Found a fix in a Debian bug report here:

https://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=935328

Basically just replace 'libsystemd0' with 'libelogind0' in
/usr/lib/x86_64-linux-gnu/guestfs/supermin.d/packages

Hope this helps someone.

Hi, just want to add, with Devuan Daedalus, it's "libelogind-compat".
libelogind0 alone won't suffice.
